Eden & James, wedding video Iceland (with some Super8 as well)

This wedding on Iceland has a long story behind it. Eden and James were planning a wedding in England and it was almost or 2 years (I think) from our first contact to a wedding.

One day (like 3 months before the wedding) an email came through: there  will be no UK wedding and we were moving to Iceland, and instead of a big wedding there would be an elopement!

I was left completely staring at the message.

Since I was pretty excited, I actually just quickly switched to Kiwi.com, bought tickets for May (photographer) and Nicol (my wife and person behind Super8 camera), booked a car and started packing my backpack.

As this was my second trip to Iceland, I knew what would be needed: lots of film for the Super8 camera! And since we had a ceremony at sunrise over Diamond Beach, that in itself was one of the most beautiful experiences I've had at a wedding, I opted for the Kodak 200T with a slightly higher sensitivity. And even though this is a hobby of mine, I won't go into details :D

As for the shots of Eden and James, the wedding video from Iceland often tempts you to pose on famous insta-spots (and people usually expect it that way). But as you can see from the video, no matter where we put Eden and James, it was like we weren't even there.

Early in the morning: Foss Hotel and sunrise at Diamond Beach

In planning for the wedding shoot, Eden and James arrived ahead of myself and May on the day but we met up with them really early, at six o’clock in the morning, at the Foss Hotel near Diamond Beach. Diamond Beach is a black sand beach on the south coast of Iceland and is home to gigantic icebergs that have washed up to the shore. The blue-white of the icebergs, set against the black of the sand, makes this a striking setting for an elopement wedding in Iceland and as a videographer, I was in my element shooting this otherworldly landscape.

By the time the sun started to rise, we had already been there for a few moments admiring the beauty. Elopement started a little later. Just us, silence and the beautiful words of the ceremony.

Strawhat Backpacker & Icepic Journeys

During the day our great guide Ryan Newburn took us to explore and shoot in several locations. We did a tour (and took some footage) at Skaftafell National Park, which is home to Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, Iceland’s famous glacier lagoon. Later in the day we visited Fjaðrárgljúfur – highlight of the day; a breathtaking canyon, with bedrock thought to be two million years old (the canyon itself runs for over a mile long).
